Physical books and psychological ownership

Young people may still prefer curling up with an actual paper book instead of an e-book—even more so than their older counterparts, a new study shows.

This study showed how psychological ownership is more related to perceptions of ‘what is mine’. Three factors affect people’s sense of psychological ownership;

1. Whether they feel as if they have control over the objects, they own;

2. Whether they use the object to define who they are;

3. Whether the object helps give them a sense of belonging in society.

When it comes to digital books, young readers view it as more of a concept than an actual thing.
